Boo-Boo, Water Time & Opening Day

The first major injury occurred in the Hansard House.  The victim - Jake Joseph.  Of course, Daddy was out of town.   The boys were running around the house chasing each other.  I was asking them to calm down and stop running (which I do about 100 Xs a day), but before they stopped Jake ran head first into the corner of the wall which resulted in a deep cut on his forehead.  It was almost a perfect line, but very deep.  I was literally about 2 feet from him.  I grabbed him, got a few towels for the blood, told Ford to get their shoes and we all jumped in the car.  I knew this was more than just a band-aide cut.  It was dinner time on a Saturday (I actually had just taken our dinner out of the oven) and I knew our After Hours Pediatric Clinic was open, so we headed there instead of the big scary ER.  The receptionist grabbed a doctor right away to take a look and she decided Dermabond (surgical glue) and surgical strips would do the trick instead of stitches.  I'm sure this is just the first of many more emergency visits and battle wounds.

The weather has been so beautiful lately.  We decided it was time to bust out some water fun in the backyard.

Rangers Opening Day is a celebrated holiday in the Hansard House.  This year it fell on Good Friday, so Daddy was home and the boys were off from school.  We decided to have a picnic lunch at a park, then we watched the game and cheered on the Rangers.  We can't wait to go out to the ballpark for some games this season!

Pre-Easter Activities

We had a few pre-Easter activities planned this year.  We went to our annual PAMOM Spring Fling.  Daddy was out of town, so Grandma came with us.  It was at Owen's Farm, which had bounce houses, animals, train rides, crafts, Egg Hunt and the Easter Bunny.  It was a perfect day and a great location. 

Last year, this was the event that created Jake's fear of the Easter Bunny and egg hunts.  He was traumatized when the Easter Bunny blew the air horn and all the kids started running for eggs.  Thank goodness, he overcame his fear!  He was actually quite curious of the Easter Bunny and very interested in him.  He examined him for a little bit, then looked at me and said "there's a man in there."

We also hosted an Easter Playgroup with friends.  We had lunch, did a craft and hunted for eggs. 

The beautiful blooming bluebonnet fields are a favorite springtime Texas highlight.  We stopped by a field near our house to take a few pictures.  

 

Before Easter, we colored and decorated eggs.  Jake really wanted to make some of his look like a chick, so we did the best we could. 

We also decorated Easter cookies, although only about half the icing makes it on the cookies, the other half goes in the mouth.

Beautiful March

The month of March flew by.  We had numerous beautiful weather days.  One of Ford and Jake's favorite after school activities is going to a park for a picnic lunch and play.  We have pretty regular backyard picnics and occassional living room picnics (on bad weather days) as well.  One of our favorite parks "the school bus park" has a a great playground and very friendly ducks live on the other side of the creek.  We always make sure we have some bread to feed them.

On this visit to the park, we learned about a new animal, called a nutria.  It is basically a creek/river animal that is typically nocturnal.  There are a few information signs around the trail about them, but I never paid too much attention to them and actually thought they were similar to squirrels.  These things are huge - about the size of a beaver.  They actually look a lot like beavers, except they have a pointed tail.  I got a picture of one swimming, but there were actually 3.

We also saw a family of turtles, but by the time I got my camera out, only one was left on the log, the others got in the water.

Jake and Mommy

Ford and Jake working on their model cars.  It was actually a kit that you make the cars with a mold and plaster, then let dry for about a day, then paint.  Jake wanted his car solid red, then he decided he wanted a stripe and his intial, so he got a little assistance on that.  Ford actually did the green and red paint, then he got a little assistance on some touch ups and his inital.  It is amazing how much more indepedent they are on crafts.

We had a fun St. Patrick's Day theme playdate with friends.  We always attempt a group picture and usually get a few to actually look and smile :)
